Synthesis, crystal structure refinement, and ionic transport properties of lantanum silicate with apatite structure

Kobayashi, Kiyoshi*; Yoshida, Akira*; Matsushita, Yoshitaka*; Nishimura, Chikashi*; Oyama, Yukiko*; Miyoshi, Shogo*; Izumi, Fujio*; Igawa, Naoki; Yamaguchi, Shu*

Conduction properties of oxide ions and crystal structure refinement of La$$_{9.50}$$(SiO$$_{4}$$)$$_{6}$$O$$_{2.25}$$ have been made by A.C.-impedance, electro-motive force of oxygen concentration cell, X-ray and neutron diffraction methods using the sample fabricated by the sol-gel method. The crystal structure of the sample can be refined by structural model with ${it P}$6$$_{3}$$/${it m}$ space group. Oxide ion conductivity is found to be predominant in wide oxygen partial pressure and temperature range based on the conductivity and electro-motive force measurements.

Location of proton and structural relaxation in a perovskite-type proton conductor

Shimoyama, Tomotaka*; Tojo, Takeo*; Kawaji, Hitoshi*; Atake, Toru*; Fukazawa, Hiroshi; Igawa, Naoki

no journal, ,

Proton conductor BaZr$$_{0.8}$$Sc$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{2.9}$$ was synthesized by a solid state reaction method. Neutron diffraction experiments were performed for dried and D$$_{2}$$O dissolute samples at 10 K. The observed data were analyzed by Rietveld method and Maximum Entropy method. It has been clarified that the deuterium exits at 12${it h}$ site. It is founded that the distance between oxide ion site and deuterium site is shorter than the normal distance of O-D.

Non-destructive and on-line Li diffusion experiments in Li ionic conductors are conducted using the short-lived $$alpha$$-emitting radiotracer of $$^{8}$$Li. The radiotracers produced as an energetic and pulsed ion beam from TRIAC (Tokai Radioactive Ion Accelerator Complex) are implanted into a structural defect mediated Li ionic conductor of NaTl-type intermetallic compounds $$beta$$-LiGa. The diffusion coefficients obtained for $$beta$$-LiGa with Li content of 43-54 at.% at room temperature are discussed in terms of the interaction between Li-ion and the structural defects in the specimen, compared with the case of $$beta$$-LiAl and $$beta$$-LiIn. The nonlinear Li-content dependency of Li diffusion coefficients for $$beta$$-LiGa suggests that the Li diffusion with Li-deficient region is obstructed by the defect complex composed of vacancies at the Li sites.
